Perplexity Connectors: integrating apps and cloud storage with AI search

Perplexity Connectors allow you to seamlessly integrate with File App Connectors like Google Drive with Perplexity’s AI search capabilities, enabling you to find information across your personal files. Here’s everything you need to know about this powerful feature.

What are Perplexity Connectors?

Connectors are integrations that allow you to connect your cloud storage services to Perplexity. For Pro subscribers the following integrations are supported:

  • Google Drive

  • Dropbox

We’re working on expanding integrations with other cloud storage services, too. Setting up a Connector enables Perplexity to search through your files to provide answers based on your content.

How Connectors work

When you connect your cloud storage service to Perplexity you will be able to easily select specific files to sync with Perplexity.

Here’s what connection with your file app would look like:

At the moment, file syncing is not supported on the Pro plan. If you make changes in the original file, they will not transfer over to the file you have attached your session. You will have to re-upload the specific file to search the latest information.

Getting started with Connectors

To connect your cloud storage service to Perplexity:

1

Open Plugins in the sidebar (or Customize → Connectors if you don’t see Plugins yet) and find your cloud storage service on Discover or search for it by name.

2. Open each service’s connector page and select Connect.

3. You will have to authenticate your account.

4. A successful authentication will say Connected

5. To edit files, click on the (…) three dots and then Upload.

File connectors can also appear inside a plugin. Connecting a connector anywhere connects it for your account everywhere. Your connection applies inside every plugin, as do your organization’s connector settings if you belong to an organization. See What are plugins?.

Supported file types

Perplexity Connectors currently support:

  • Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets

  • PDF files

  • Microsoft Office files (DOCX, XLSX, PPTX)

  • CSV files

  • Markdown (MD)

  • JSON files

Using Connectors in your searches

Here’s how you can use files in your Searches

1

As a source for search: Enable your connected file app as a source when creating a new thread.

2

As file attachments: Add specific files from your connected storage as attachments to your queries.

Please note that file connectors can only be utilized directly in a session. File connectors for projects is an Enterprise feature.

Security and Privacy

The following measures are in place to protect your data:

  • All credentials are encrypted at rest and in transit

  • Files are stored securely within AWS S3

  • Your data will not be used to train models
