A plugin is a bundle of connectors and skills packaged around a job you want Perplexity Computer to do. Instead of finding the right connector, installing the matching skills, and explaining how they fit together, you install one plugin and Computer gets everything at once.

Plugins, connectors, and skills all live on the Plugins page in the sidebar. You can still find, connect, install, and manage connectors and skills on their own. Plugins add a faster starting point on top of them.

What a plugin contains

Every plugin has a name, a description, and at least one of the following:

  • Connectors give Computer access to an external tool such as Gmail, Slack, Snowflake, or GitHub. Each connector still needs to be connected with your own account, and it keeps its own tools, permissions, and settings.

  • Skills give Computer a methodology for a type of task, such as drafting outreach or building a presentation. When you install a plugin, its skills are installed and enabled for you automatically.

A plugin can be a single connector, a single skill, or a combination. A plugin with one connector uses that connector’s name and icon, so the Microsoft 365 plugin looks the same as the Microsoft 365 connector you may already know. A plugin with several connectors or skills is named after the job it does.

Skills installed through a plugin are copies you manage through the plugin. Some bundled skills are managed through their plugin rather than installed on their own. A connector connected through a plugin is connected for your account everywhere.

One action for each item

Each type of item has one main action. You Install a plugin: its skills are installed right away. If it has one connector, the connection flow opens automatically. If it has several, choose which accounts to connect, and connect the rest later from the plugin page. You Connect a connector, which signs you in to the external tool and authorizes Computer to use it. You Install a skill, which is enabled automatically; turn it off with its Enabled switch without uninstalling it.

A plugin shows each connector’s status: Connected, Connect, Disabled by your organization, Unavailable, or Upgrade required. If a connector needs reconnecting, open the Installed tab and select Reconnect next to it. If a connector is blocked, the plugin stays installed, but Computer cannot use that connector until your plan or organization settings allow it. For the full walkthrough, see Find, install, and remove plugins.

To use a plugin in a session, type / and select it under Plugins. Computer loads the plugin’s enabled skills for that task.

Plugins and your organization

If you belong to an Enterprise organization, your organization administrator’s connector settings apply wherever a connector appears, including inside plugins. A plugin never grants access to a connector your organization has disabled or restricted to other roles, and installing a plugin never connects an account on your behalf. The Organization tab on the Plugins page shows the plugins, connectors, and skills your organization has shared with you.

Administrators manage connectors on Organization settings → Connectors and plugins and skills on Organization settings → Plugins and skills. See Role-based access control for connectors and Enterprise roles and permissions.

Availability

The Plugins page is available on the web, in the desktop apps, and in the mobile apps. Plugins that include skills need a plan that includes Perplexity Computer. Plugins are rolling out gradually, starting with individual plans and Self-Serve Enterprise organizations. Plugins are coming soon to sales-assisted Enterprise plans. Until then, members and admins keep using Connectors and Skills. If you don’t see Plugins in the sidebar yet, keep using Customize → Connectors and Skills. Everything there works as before.

If you are an Enterprise administrator, see Manage plugins for your organization for organization-level controls.
