The API Console offers four ways to sign in — Google, Apple, single sign-on (SSO), and passwordless email — and all four connect you to the same Perplexity account.
Why use different sign-in options?
Sign in with whatever fits how you work — a personal or Google Workspace account, your Apple ID, your company’s identity provider, or just your email inbox.
You are not locked in. Sign-in methods that use the same email address link to one account, so your API groups, keys, and billing stay in place however you sign in.
Email sign-in is passwordless, so there is no password to set, remember, or reset.
Choosing a sign-in option

Note: Signing in creates a Perplexity account, but it does not give you API access on its own. After your first sign-in, the setup wizard prompts you to create or join an API group before you can generate a key. See What is the Perplexity API Platform? for the full getting-started path.
Signing in with Google
To sign in with Google:
On the login page, click Continue with Google and choose the Google account you want to use.
Google asks you to confirm the sign-in and share your name, email, and profile picture with Perplexity. Approve to continue.
You are returned to the API Console signed in. If this is your first visit, the setup wizard walks you through creating an API group.
If you already have a Perplexity account with the same email address, signing in with Google connects Google to that existing account. You keep your API groups, keys, and history.
Signing in with Apple
To sign in with Apple:
On the login page, click Continue with Apple and authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple ID password.
Choose whether to share your real email address or use Hide My Email to generate a private relay address. Perplexity uses whichever address Apple returns.
You are returned to the API Console signed in. If this is your first visit, the setup wizard walks you through creating an API group.
Important: If you already have a Perplexity account under your real email and later choose Hide My Email, Apple returns a different address and creates a separate account. Pick one email preference and stick with it, or contact api@perplexity.ai if you need accounts merged.
Signing in with SSO
SSO lets your organization sign in through its own identity provider, such as Okta, Azure AD, or Google Workspace SAML. It works for Perplexity organizations that have set up SSO on a verified domain.
To sign in with SSO:
On the login page, click Single sign-on (SSO). The form switches to a work-email prompt.
Enter the email address on your organization’s verified domain and click Continue with SSO. Use Back to all options to return to the other sign-in methods.
You are redirected to your organization’s identity provider. Complete the sign-in there — including any MFA prompts — and you are returned to the API Console.
If you see “SSO is not available for this email address”, SSO has not been set up for your domain yet. Ask your organization admin to configure it, or use one of the other sign-in options.
Note: SSO is available to Perplexity organizations with an active organization subscription (an active trial qualifies). It is not available on personal Pro or Max plans, and it cannot be enabled with API-only billing — your organization must exist in the main Perplexity app first.
SSO is configured once by an organization admin in the main Perplexity app and applies to sign-in across Perplexity, including the API Console. For setup steps, see the Single Sign-On collection or the SSO sign-in guide in the developer docs.
Signing in with email
Email sign-in is passwordless. There is no password to set or remember.
To sign in with email:
Enter your email address in the Email field and click Continue with email.
Check your inbox for an email containing both a magic link and a temporary sign-in code. Clicking the link on the same device signs you in immediately, and the code works on any device.
Once verified, you are signed in. If this is your first visit, the setup wizard walks you through creating an API group.
Note: If your email address is on a domain where your organization requires SSO, the email flow routes you to your organization’s identity provider instead of sending a code.
Switching between sign-in methods
You can use different sign-in methods at different times with the same account. If you first signed up with email and later click Continue with Google using the same address, Google is linked to your existing Perplexity account — your API groups, keys, and billing stay in place. The same applies to Apple and to switching back to email.
Important: Account linking is based on your email address. Signing in with a different email — for example, a personal Google address instead of your work email — creates a separate account with its own API groups and keys. If you end up with two accounts by accident, contact api@perplexity.ai.
FAQs
Do I need a password to sign in?
No. All four options are passwordless. Google, Apple, and SSO use your existing provider, and email sign-in sends a magic link and one-time code instead.
Can I use more than one sign-in method?
Yes. As long as each method uses the same email address, they all connect to the same Perplexity account.
I signed in but I don’t see my API groups or keys. What happened?
You most likely signed in with a different email address, which created a separate account. Sign out and sign back in with the email you originally used. If you need two accounts merged, contact api@perplexity.ai.
Does signing in give me access to the API right away?
No. Signing in creates your Perplexity account, but you also need to create or join an API group, add billing, and generate an API key. See What is the Perplexity API Platform? for those steps.
